I am dedicated to working with adults and adolescents with concerns related to anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, trauma and unwanted sexual contact, relationship concerns, cross-cultural adjustment, stress/time management, insomnia, and professional and academic development.
Our first meeting will entail an assessment of your current concerns, your background, and goals for therapy so that we can together formulate a treatment plan that meets your needs. The assessment is also a time for us to consider whether I am the best person to provide the services you need and for you to consider if you feel comfortable working with me. Each session lasts for 50 minutes.
Based on each person's needs and preferences, I integrate different treatment modalities including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and relational approaches in a supportive atmosphere. After identifying the issues of concern, we may explore their underpinnings, learn how they manifest in your current life, and work on overcoming them by developing coping skills and strategies for addressing your concerns and promoting behavioral and cognitive changes to achieve your goals.
In addition to private practice, I serve as an assistant clinical professor at the George Washington University where I supervise advanced doctoral psychology students and as an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University Counseling & Psychiatric Service where I teach seminars to doctoral and post-doctoral students. My prior experience include serving as a staff psychologist at the Georgetown University Counseling & Psychiatric Services. I received my graduate training at the George Washington University and completed a pre-doctoral internship at the University of Virginia Counseling Center and a post-doctoral fellowship at Georgetown University. I am originally from Sweden and have resided in Washington since 2001.
I am considered an “out of network provider” as I am not participating in any insurance networks. If you wish to be reimbursed by your insurance carrier, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to determine the type and amount of mental health coverage available to you, the coverage for out of network providers, if there is an annual deductible you must meet, and if a note from your physician is required indicating your need for therapy. If your insurance does provide coverage, you must submit the claims yourself. I am happy to help you navigate that process and fill out any necessary forms to help you receive the benefits to which you are entitled.
I am a provider for FECA and my practice will process claims for clients with approval of benefits for psychotherapy services.
I accept checks and credit cards and I will provide you with a statement in the end of each month.
